【内容提要】Translational attitude varies from culture to culture and different underlying assumptions about how translation functions and how it is done merit careful attention. The supposed neutrality of translation belies many points of political contention and cultural conflict. It is clear that the translator’s intervention is inevitable, not only to make the task of cross-cultural communication possible, but also to serve other purposes and interests, depending on the actual needs of cultural performance. Intervention also encompasses a host of factors, including political, social or cultural aspects of translating, dictated by the requirement of taking into account the possible impact of a translation on the target reader. In addition, aside from thoughts, feelings and emotions embodied in the original to be inferred and represented in translation are of extreme importance to perceiving a cross-cultural experience. This paper represents an effort to investigate how the translator intervenes in capturing and reproducing the complexity of the original with its nuanced feelings and emotions, and to consider the ways in which the reproduction of such feelings and emotions shapes and determines the end-product of translation.
【嘉宾介绍】
孙艺风：香港岭南大学翻译系教授。先后在南京大学、卡迪夫大学、西敏斯特大学、剑桥大学、莱顿大学和牛津大学等校学习或从事研究工作，获学士、硕士和博士学位。曾任国际翻译与跨文化研究协会 (IATIS) 副主席，暨南大学外国语言文学研究所名誉所长；现任中国翻译协会 (TAC) 理事，国际译联 (FIT) 翻译与文化委员会委员。出版著作包括：Fragmentation and Dramatic Moments, 《视角、阐释、文化：文学翻译与翻译理论》和 Cultural Exile and Homeward Journey。合编Translation, Globalisation and Localisation。目前主持《20世纪中国文学选集》（英文版）（国家新闻出版总署资助）《中、短篇小说》卷的编译工作。论文发表于Modern Language Quarterly, ARIEL: A Review of International English Literature, Babel, Across Languages and Cultures, Perspectives, Comparative Literature Studies, Journal of Multicultural Discourses, Journal of Translation Studies, Neohelicon,Tamkang Review, 《中国翻译》和《翻译季刊》等学术刊物。曾在牛津大学、伦敦大学、台湾师范大学、澳门大学、清华大学和复旦大学等校讲学。
